Composer
'A rewarding challenge for the band, combining strict minimalist attention to rhythmic detail with an attractive melodic bent.'
- Adam Swayne (Conductor of SWO/MD of CoMA/Composer)
'Robin has a real knack for writing for brass and wind instruments, fully exploiting their potential for grandeur and romance. Yet his compositions also contain enough rhythmic and harmonic surprises to give them an appealing 21st Century twist. Uplifting stuff!.'
- Tom Wilson (Audience member/Composer)
My main love is composing and I compose in a wide
range of styles, being influenced from punk-rock to classical, from film scores
to Romantic song cycles. I began composing at an early age when I wrote studies
for myself to play as a beginner euphonium player. I have studied under Judith
Weir, Bernard Hughes, Matthew Mills, and I am currently studying under Michael
Zev Gorden, John Habron and Andy Fisher. For the past year I have been composer in residence (and co-conductor) for the Southampton University Brass Band.
Some of my latest works include:
- A River Leam Suite for Wind Orchestra, (commissioned by Warwick University Wind Orchestra)
- A Concerto for Brass Quartet and Band (commissioned by the Brioso Quartet)
- Olympic Overture for Wind Band or Small Orchestra (winner of the "Baby" SUSO Composers Competition)
- Much (and his merry band of women, children and the elderly) An all age comedy musical
- A Trip Round the U.K. (commissioned by the Southampton University Brass Band)
- Purple for Tuba/Euph Quartet (commissioned by John DelVento and the Acatuba Quartet)
- Boundaries for Wind Orchestra (premiered February 2010)
- And much more!
I have just finished a Euphonium Concerto and I am in the process of looking for someone to premiere it. Do you know someone? Get in touch....
For the full range of compositions please see the catalogue
